Rita es parte del equipo fundador del programa existente, inicia como voluntaria en 2005 para la protección de los delfines en Bayahibe. En 2009 lidera el establecimiento del centro de investigaciones de FUNDEMAR y en 2011 el desarrollo y establecimiento del programa de conservación de arrecifes, pasando a asumir la dirección ejecutiva en 2015.
